When should one show the horoscope of the child? Some people say the horoscope of child should not be shown before the age of 8 years or 12 years.” This is absolutely wrong. Those people who advocate this do not know what damage can be done by this. Consultation of child horoscope is as necessary as having the child immunized and it is necessary right at birth. It governs the happiness of the family as a whole. Preventive remedies can save the family of lot of problems.

Let me share with you where the parents of children consulted astrology in the face of serious health problems faced by the children after few months of the birth. In some cases the consultation was made even before any problems which helped the child in avoiding the indicating health problems.

Child Horoscope 1 – Born 12th June, 1979, 1430 Hrs. The most malefic planet caused severe afflictions in the birth chart which resulted in cerebral palsy of the left leg immediately after birth. Astrological consultations were sought much later.

Child Horoscope 2 – Born 23th November, 2007. The lord of the house of development, Jupiter, is in utter infancy and weak. The lord of the ascendant ruling health is badly placed in the house of losses in its sign of debilitation. The child started the main period of Venus from December, 2007. Astral remedies used since birth in the form of both propitiatory remedies and wearing of a special power kavach after few days of birth as preventive remedy. The child is maintaining good health and developing as per normal child growth standards.

Child Horoscope 3 – Born 1st November, 1990, 1417 hrs. Rahu-Ketu axis is on the most effective points of the twelfth and sixth houses. At birth the child was in the main period of Ketu. All the natal planets are weak. No astrological consultation and remedy at birth. The child became autistic child.

Child Horoscope 4 – Born 29th November, 2001, at 2244 Hrs. The most malefic planet causes exact affliction to Venus which rules development in this chart. Mars, Venus and Mercury are weak. No astral consultation was obtained at birth. The child had retarted growth.

Child Horoscope 5 – 8th June, 2008, 0445 Hrs. The functional malefic planet, Venus, causes exact affliction to Mercury and the Sun. Rahu afflicts Mercury, Venus and the Sun. The functional malefic planet Mars closely afflicts the Moon ruling development. The child was born after 7 months delivery and developed jaundice after a few days of birth. Astral remedies suggestion was asked immediately and the performance of astral remedies helped in recovery. The child is progressing well.

Determinant Planets for Progeny

1. The lords of the fifth and/or second house containing a mooltrikona sign are the prime determinants for progeny. For Aquarius ascendant, Jupiter and the Sun are the prime determinants.
2. Jupiter and the Sun are significators for progeny and especially male child.
3. The lord of the ascendant of sapthamsa (D-VII) containing a mooltrikona sign is additional determinant for progeny.
4. The fifth and second houses.
5. The happiness from the male child is seen from the tenth house.

For the birth of a male child, it is important that the prime determinants for child are fairly placed, well placed and unafflicted. Afflictions cause problems and can be reduced through propitiatory (peace making) remedies. The weak prime determinants for child are strengthened through a special power Kavach or a special purpose Kavach.

* Avoiding the ascending sign which turns the Sun into a functional malefic planet in case there are some planets which are in the state of combustion around the expected date of delivery.
* Choosing the right ascendant.
* Avoiding bad placement of the planets with reference to the ascendant.
* Avoiding the placement of the functional malefic planets and the most malefic planet near the most effective point of ascending degree. This is the least which one could and should do to avoid adversities in life.
* Selecting the proper time for delivery and electing to go in for a cesarean delivery.

For a smooth and comparatively happy life one should not hesitate in going for a cesarean delivery as this can save one from serious health problems in life, obstructions in education, professional setbacks, financial problems, etc.

The health is of the first and foremost concern to one and all. Shashthamsa (D-VI) is the divisional chart that is studied for analyzing the health, involvement in disputes and debts and the consequences, thereof along with the planet(s) becoming primary significator(s) of health in rasi and the general significator of health, Mars.

The primary significator(s) of health are the lords of the ascendant and/or the sixth house, containing mooltrikona sign(s). If both the ascendant and the sixth house do not contain a mooltrikona sign, then the Sun would be considered the primary significator of health.

To explain the matter further we shall take up a few case studies to demonstrate the results of the weak and/or afflicted planets in a chart.

CHART 86:Female born 12th October 1988, 0805 hrs. 77E13 28N39, India.

The most malefic planet, Mercury, closely afflicts the Sun placed in the twelfth house. Ketu is conjunct with the most effective point of the eleventh house and also aspects the most effective point of the third house besides the Rahu-Ketu axis afflicting the other houses occupied/aspected by them. Weak Venus, the lord of the ascendant, is also afflicted due to the close influence of Rahu-Ketu axis. Mars is badly placed in the sixth house. The sign Cancer rises in the ascendant of the divisional chart shashthamsa. The concentration of affliction is more on the third and eleventh houses as the lords of these houses are badly placed. These afflictions resulted into ear problems. During the main period of Rahu and sub-period of Ketu the problem increased in the form of pus formation and swelling in both the ears and the native was advised to have an operation for treatment. It is at this stage that the parents of the native sought astrological help for assessing the chances of a successful surgical operation and sought astral remedies so that the operation is a positive success. The application of astral remedies was able to meet the expectations of the parents and the surgical operation was successful. The native was advised both propitiatory astral remedies for the functional malefic planets and wearing of a Kavach for strengthening the weak functional benefic planets in an auspiciously elected time.

A postponement of a mere 15 to 20 minutes in the time of birth would have kept the Rahu/Ketu axis away from the most effective points of the houses. Similarly, in this case Mercury and the Sun are in the close conjunction. If time permitted we could have thought of selecting another ascendant in which both the Sun and Mercury remain functional benefic planets. In the Scorpio ascendant around 3 degrees rising in place of the currently four badly placed planets there would have been only one badly placed planet. The natal affliction of the Moon due to the aspect of the functional malefic Mars would have been counter-balanced due to the well placed Sun. The functional benefic planet, Saturn, would have been on the most effective point of the second house and protecting and promoting the fourth house containing its own mooltrikona sign, neutralizing the impact of Rahu in the fourth house. The close conjunction of the Sun and Mercury would have created a very good opportunity of large financial gains and a successful professional and social life.

CHART 87 : Male born 24th October 1976, 0535 hrs. 77E13 28N39, India.

The lord of the ascendant Mercury is well placed in the chart but is weak as it is combust and in the state of old age. Its placement in its sign of exaltation covers some amount of weakness. The functional malefic Saturn occupies the sign Cancer in the eleventh house and closely afflicts the most effective points of the eleventh house, ascendant, fifth and eighth houses. The Sun is afflicted due to the close affliction of Rahu-Ketu axis. The most malefic planet, Mars, exerts its close influence on the Moon. The affliction of the sign Cancer, the ascendant and the Moon resulted into pleurisy. The sign Aquarius rises in the ascendant of the divisional chart shashthamsa. Mars is in its sign of debilitation in shashthamsa. The astral remedies were sought when the medical treatment failed to give permanent satisfactory relief. The application of astral remedies increases the power/efficacy of the symptomatic treatment.

A postponement of birth time by about 30 minutes would have changed the ascendant reducing the number of functional malefic planets from five to three. The delay of 10 minutes would have created a longitudinal difference of more than five degrees between the most effective points of various houses and the functional malefic planet, Saturn. The birth in the ascending sign of Libra would have blessed the native with good status in life, good health and a long life.

CHART 88 : Female born 20th February 1993, 1212 hrs. New Delhi, India.

The Moon, Jupiter and Saturn are suffering from the close affliction of Ketu. The Sun and Mercury are well placed in the chart. The most malefic planet, Jupiter, is mutually involved in severe affliction with the primary significator of health, Venus. This disposition of Jupiter and Venus not only endangers health but also endangers longevity. Capricorn rises in the ascendant of the shashthamsa. The functional malefic Mars closely afflicts the most effective points of the houses aspected and occupied in the natal chart. The child was born in the main period of Mars. The close affliction of the most malefic planet, Jupiter, to the Moon ruling the lungs and Venus ruling the health resulted into a congenital problem and the lungs of the native were not expanding with the physical growth of the child. The irreparable ill health of the child caused unbearable mental sufferings to the parents as they could not do anything to improve the health and chances of survival of the child in spite of their being medical specialists of eminence. The operation of the main period of functional malefic Mars causing severe afflictions to the most effective point of the eighth house magnified the results of natal afflictions.

In this case birth in the Gemini ascendant would have changed the scene altogether as the mutual aspect of Jupiter and Venus would have created an active and creative personality. The child would have been long lived with good health. Even the birth that was earlier by six minutes would have removed the afflictions of the most malefic planet, Jupiter, to the ascendant and of the functional malefic planet, Venus, to the most effective points of the eleventh and fifth houses by 80%. This would have increased the affliction of Mars by 30% but in comparison to the removal of the affliction of Jupiter and Venus, this would have been very mild.

CHART 89: Female born 22nd February 1957, 0300 hrs. 74E47 34N05, India.

The Moon is in its sign of debilitation. The most malefic planet, Venus, afflicts the most effective point of the third house and the sign Cancer placed in the ninth house. The functional malefic Mars closely afflicts the lord of the fourth house by way of an aspect. Rahu-Ketu axis is close to the most effective points of the twelfth and sixth houses and afflicts the second, fourth, eighth and tenth houses by close aspects. The affliction to the most effective point of the third house, the lord of the fourth house and the most effective point of the fourth house resulted in problems of health pertaining to the lungs manifesting in the form of tuberculosis. Pisces rises in the ascendant of shashthamsa and there is no planet in its sign of debilitation in shashthamsa. It started in the sub-period of Venus in the main period of Venus and continued to trouble the native. During the sub-period of Jupiter in the main period of Venus the native came to seek astrological remedies which were prescribed in the form of wearing of a Kavach for the functional benefic planets besides the use of a pearl and propitiatory remedial measures for the afflicting planets, Venus, Mars, Rahu and Ketu.

In this case, too, a delay of about 30 minutes in the time of birth would have kept the affliction of Rahu and Ketu away from the most effective points, and the afflictions of Venus to the most effective points and of Mars to Saturn would not have been effective as both of these planets would have become functional benefic planets. Instead of bringing problems, the aspect of Mars to Saturn would have been good for earnings through foreign trade.

“IMPACT OF CHILD BIRTH ON FAMILY”

In ancient India it had been a custom that an astrologer will be consulted to find out about the health and life of the child and the impact of the planets on the family. Majority of people still follow this custom and make use of the ancient wisdom.

Recently, we were consulted by a lady who said that her parents were killed in an accident when she was quite young. She wanted to know whether such an eventuality would be faced by her child. “HEALTH OF CHILD IN INFANCY”

Health is a common question for the newborn child. This arises because some children face health concerns, right at birth. With the increased health facilities the rate of infant mortality has fallen considerably.

The health is ruled by the first and the sixth houses. Besides, these houses the lords of the ascendant and the sixth house containing a mooltrikona sign become the prime determinant(s) of health. In case both the ascendant and the sixth house do not contain a mooltrikona sign then the planet Sun, the significator for vitality, is considered as the prime determinant of health. For various ascendants, the following planets act as prime determinants:

If a mooltrikona sign rises in the shashthamsa (D-VI), the lord of the same becomes additional prime determinant of health. The Sun is the significator of health and vitality and Mars is the secondary significator of health and vitality. If the prime determinant(s), additional prime determinant and the prime and secondary significators are weak, badly placed and/or afflicted, then the native is vulnerable to serious health problems. In case the planets, mentioned here are strong or well placed and unafflicted, then the native enjoys good health except short term sufferings due to transit weakness and afflictions.

The astrological reasons for health problems are weak strength of planets becoming prime and additional determinants of health, the Moon and operation of the sub period of weak / afflicted planets at the time of the birth of a child. Added to this is that Rahu and Ketu are almost stationary or at very slow speed for about three months, twice a year. This phenomenon happens after every nine degrees. The prolonged transit impact of Rahu or Ketu is quite difficult for the children or even grown up persons. This is the reason in 75% of cases of difficulties being experienced by the people. This influence on weak and badly placed planets activates the incidence of serious infections, undiagnosed diseases, allergies, sudden mishaps, auto-immune disorders, etc. etc. The Moon rules the health in infancy. It makes the health in infancy quite sensitive and especially if the Moon in the nativity is weak and badly placed.

“TIMING BIRTH OF A YOUNGER BROTHER / SISTER”

This is an important concern of the parents. These days in most of the countries people follow the small family norm in view of the challenging economic situation. People want to have a combination of a male and a female child. In India having a male child is all the more important. As per the scriptures the birth of a son is considered necessary for doing the last rites of the parents. Small family norm is also followed by the persons where both husband and wife are working. Besides, asking the possibility of a particular sex of child, people want to know whether at a particular time the birth of child would be free of the problems. IMPORTANT PREDICTIVE TECHNIQUES USED FOR HOROSCOPE ANALYSIS
Birth chart analysis, as per Systems’ Approach, depends upon the following factors:

1. FUNCTIONAL NATURE OF PLANETS

The functional nature of planets is the key analytical factor in the horoscope analysis. Besides Rahu and Ketu, the planets, whose mooltrikona signs are in malefic houses (sixth, eighth and twelfth) with reference to the ascendant, act as functional malefic planets in a nativity. For this purpose, under the Systems’ Approach the sign Cancer is considered as the mooltrikona sign of the Moon.
The functional nature of any planet depends on the nature of the mooltrikona house of that planet. It is not related to the strength of the planet. A planet may be weak or strong but the functional nature will remain same as per the defined principle for identifying the functional nature of planets.

In exceptional cases, when Rahu is well placed in a mooltrikona sign of a planet, without causing any conjunction or close aspect with other houses and planets and its dispositor is strong, Rahu gives good results during its sub-periods for materialistic prosperity. Rahu-Ketu, when exalted, give materialist benefits while debilitated Rahu involves the native in exposed scandals and acute physical sufferings.

The functional malefic planets for various ascendants, mentioned above, may appear to be at variance when seen in the context of the available classical texts, but when you analyze the charts based on the functional malefic planets brought out hereinabove, you would find that all of your confusions disappear at one stroke. The classical principles were laid down by Maharishi Parashara in Dwapara yuga and changes, mutatis mutandis (wherever necessary) have been suggested for the nativities in the Kaliyuga.

2. Identifying Afflicting Planets

It is very necessary to understand the difference between afflicting planets and afflicted planets.

All planets can become afflicted, but only the functional malefic planets can be afflicting planets.

A transit functional malefic planet will afflict always its natal position by conjunction or aspect, except when placed in its own mooltrikona house in rasi/birth chart. A natal/transit functional malefic planet never afflicts its own mooltrikona house, except when the functional malefic planet is already afflicted and/or afflicts from a dusthana/malefic house.

3. Understanding the impact of planetary conjunctions and Aspects:

In the case of influence of functional malefic planets over MEPs/planets simultaneously strong in rasi and transit, the orb is one degree on either side for normal afflictions and two degrees on either side for special/multiple afflictions, while in the case of MEPs/planets either weak in rasi or in transit, the orb is five degrees on either side. In the case of influence of strong functional benefic planets over MEPs/planets simultaneously strong in rasi and transit, the orb is five degrees on either side, while in the case of MEPs/planets either weak in rasi or in transit, the orb is one degree on either side. Under the influence of natal/transit functional malefic planets, all planets get malefically influenced.

The maximum influence of the transit or natal conjunction/aspect is when it is within one degree on either side. As soon as the transit influence starts separating, the influence starts tapering down. It is very important to see the strength of the planet on which the transit influence is being studied. I hope the readers are able to understand this dimension for better analysis.

4. Identifying the strength of planets

A weak natal planet is not capable of fully protecting/promoting its general significations and the significations of its mooltrikona house during the course of its sub-periods and during the triple transit functional malefic influences. By descending order of weakness, any planet becomes weak when:

1) The most effective point of its mooltrikona sign is afflicted by a functional malefic planet within an orb of one degree.
2) The most effective point of its house of placement is afflicted by a functional malefic planet within an orb of one degree.
3) It is conjunct or aspected by any functional malefic planet within an orb of one degree.
4) It is combust due to its nearness to the Sun.
5) It occupies malefic houses from the ascendant, except if in its own mooltrikona sign.
6) It occupies its sign of debilitation.
7) It is in the state of infancy or old-age.
8) It occupies its debilitated sign in navamsa.
9) It occupies the mooltrikona sign of a weak planet.
10) It is the Moon within 72 degrees either side of the Sun. However, this is a minor weakness.

NOTE: In serial nos. (1) to (3) above, when the affliction is special or multiple i.e. when it comes from:

1) a conjunction with/ aspect from the most malefic planet,
